NEW VENUE AIRBORNE FORCES DAY 2012 One Day Event Only SUNDAY 1st JULY 2012 Will be held at the Royal Marines Association Grounds and Club House War Memorial Pavilion Dunn Close Southsea PO4 9SB The Parade to celebrate Airborne Forces Day The Parade will take place in front of the Royal Marines Museum facing the garden of remembrance, honouring those Marines who gave their lives in the Falklands Campaign, where of course many of our Regiment also made the ultimate sacrifice. If we have enough veterans there will be two guards, as well as veterans with mobility problems and wheelchairs. Lead by the Standards of all the branches represented. We will also have the Drums of the Royal Marines, having used them on other occasions; they have always done us proud. A senior Officer of the Parachute Regiment will take the salute. The parade commander will brief the guards on the day, as is usual. This is the first time we have paraded at the Royal Marines Association home, so let’s make it good. Lets see as many veterans as possible on parade. Club House PRA ID Cards are required on entry to Club House. Bar Available - Beer £2 a pint Food will also be available PARKING Coaches and Mobility also those with Mobility problems Car Park - situated next to the Club House. Those arriving in their own vehicles will have to make their own arrangements for parking, there are parking facilities available. We realise the Southsea Common was the ideal venue, but some things were getting more difficult each year regarding our requirements and Portsmouth City Council. So it was decided to look for alternatives. After much searching we came up with this. Like many branches we are not getting any younger and the work along with the time required to set up on the common venue was very intense. This year will be the very first time in many years that our members will turn up and do what we do best , chat to old and new comrades and go home.
