March

Funeral of Ashley Miles

During March this year members of the branch attended the Funeral of Ashley
Miles at Portsmouth Crematorium, for the first time ever Ashley's coffin was
draped with the Regimental flag, which was requested by his widow , the branch
standard was also on parade.  Ashley was not an active member of the branch
but he was a wartime member of the Parachute Regt.
After the service , his widow and family members thanked the branch for giving
him this honour.

Regimental Dinner

This years Regimental dinner night went well, as it always does. The food was
excellent, the wine flowed  and the company convivial.
The guests were Commanding Officer of 128 REME Lt Col I.A Rowland,
Maj A.Walton Company Commander of 128 REME and Col Bill
Stevens who amongst other things shares the Caravan with Peter Coates on
Armed Forces Weekend, helping out with the commentaries etc. I think that all
who attended the dinner will agree that this was the first time they had given the
Col a kiss when she left the dinner !!!!!

April

On Friday 23 April the branch were invited by the Council in Gosport to attend
the homecoming of 33 Field Ambulance on their return from Afganistan and also
the presentation of the freedom of the borough of Gosport. This was followed by
a march through  the centre of the town, with the Mayor and other dignitaries
taking the salute.
There were a large amount of people watching the parade and all went well.
Before the parade began the CO of 33 Field Ambulance spoke to the members of
the branch who attended , thanking us for being there, and it turns out that he
was ex 2 Para (his problem) so the red berets there made him feel comfortable.
